James Rouse, the “father” of modern shopping malls, festival marketplaces and revitalised waterfronts, was interviewed in 1992, when he said that “Cape Town’s Waterfront will become the best waterfront in the world, because it is located in a working harbour.”

It’s a development that changed Capetonians attitude to their own city, and the world’s perception of Cape Town.  The V&A Waterfront is the most visited attraction on the African content. The Waterfront is home to two of only nine “green” office buildings in South Africa. It was named the most sustainable development in the world. Winning awards has become part of the Waterfront’s DNA.

It’s a book especially for Capetonians who love and celebrate their city, but property and tourism professionals will find it an indispensable resource for lessons learnt since QR codes link to content with more in-depth content. The Waterfront is a place that has touched many lives. We are calling on Capetonians (and people everywhere) to contribute their special anecdotes, and any compelling photos that they have.  Some of these will find their way into the book, and you can become part of the inside story of the V&A Waterfront.
